Job Description

BGMU is accepting applications for the position of Construction Inspector .  This full-time position will be scheduled to work 7:30a to 4:30p Monday through Friday.  This position is NOT subject to any residency requirement.  This position under limited supervision, assists in ensuring water and sewer construction projects comply with company specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.  This position involves inspecting construction sites, documenting progress, and coordinating with contractors, engineers, and utility crews to ensure the safe and efficient completion of utility infrastructure projects.  Essential duties include:

  • Visually inspect, record, and report on materials, equipment, and supplies delivered to the site of the work.
  • Observe the Contractor's work with respect to quality, suitability, and conformance with the Contract requirements or Utility specifications.
  • Monitors required testing procedures per Contract or Utility specifications.
  • Complete reports for daily inspections, testing results and chains of custody for sampling.
  • Keep records of construction and installation progress via "As-Built" drawings, which will be used to create Record Documents of the finished project.
  • Assist in preparing for inspection and progress reviews by regulatory agencies.
  • Review reports of independent testing laboratories.
  • Use GPS to collect coordinate date for new or existing infrastructure during construction to be added to the GIS system.
  • Perform regular drawdown testing and conduct condition assessment of lift stations.
  • Work with Engineering and CMMS/Asset Manager on the digitization of paper Record Documents.
  • Assist Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance with constructability review of proposed projects.
  • Aid in gathering data for GIS, Engineering, or CMMS initiatives; when required.
  • Additional work and/or training outside normal work hours may be required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school degree or graduate equivalency.
  • Five (5) years of extensive utility construction experience in positions of escalating technical difficulty and responsibility in the water and wastewater engineering field.
  • Relevant college coursework will be applied at a 2:1 ratio (i.e. 1 year of relevant coursework is equivalent to 2 years of experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
