Deputy Fire Marshal

Principal Duties

Fire Investigation

  • Determine cause and origin of fires
  • Conduct investigations
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Assist in prosecution of criminal charges

Fire Prevention

  • Review, approve and deny architectural and engineering plans for fire code compliance
  • Inspect and test fire protection systems
  • Inspect, approve and deny new and existing structures for compliance with codes and standards
  • Provide technical assistance
  • Develop and conduct training
  • Inspection of new and existing structures for code compliance

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a able to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing)
  • Complete and successfully pass a Level III background (investigation, polygraph, medical, drug and psychological exams)
  • Current Utah Fire Inspector I certification; or Investigator I certification; or POST certification; Peace Officer Standards Training in Utah
  • Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
  • Live within 50 miles of
