Description

A janitor also known as a cleaner or custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in various facilities such as schools hospitals offices and public spaces. Here are some common duties and responsibilities of a janitor:

Job Description:

• Cleaning Tasks: Mopping vacuuming sweeping floors and cleaning surfaces with disinfectants.
• Trash Management: Emptying trash cans and recycling bins.
• Restroom Maintenance: Cleaning and stocking restrooms.
• Minor Repairs: Performing minor repairs like changing light bulbs and unclogging toilets.
• Outdoor Maintenance: Maintaining outdoor grounds including mowing lawns trimming bushes and removing snow or debris.
• Inventory Management: Keeping track of cleaning supplies and placing orders when needed.
• Safety: Notifying supervisors of any unsafe conditions and following safety protocols.

Requirements

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is often preferred but not always required.
• Experience: prefer candidates with previous cleaning or maintenance experience.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting at least 25 pounds standing for long periods and handling cleaning equipment.
• Basic Maintenance Skills: Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Time Management: Efficiently manage time and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to work safely with various cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Attention to Detail: Ensuring thorough cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
• Communication Skills: Ability to report issues and communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

Additional Skills:

• Basic math skills for inventory management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work outside normal business hours including early mornings evenings or weekends.

Salary Description

$18-$20/hr
