Packaging Engineer | Walker, MI

Salary Range: $67,000 - $106,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and qualify new packaging solutions for manufactured products.
• Optimize existing packaging designs for cost reduction, performance, and sustainability.
• Conduct packaging material selection, testing, and validation to ensure product protection and integrity.
• Create and maintain detailed packaging specifications, drawings, and bills of material (BOMs).
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and supply chain teams on packaging projects.
• Troubleshoot packaging-related issues on production lines and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all packaging designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines.
• Manage packaging supplier relationships and evaluate new materials or technologies.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related technical field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in packaging design, development, and validation within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and a strong understanding of various packaging materials (plastics, corrugated, paperboard, glass, metal).
• Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes, packaging equipment, and supply chain dynamics.
• Proven ability to analyze packaging performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for cost, quality, and sustainability improvements.

Bonus Qualifications

• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Experience with advanced CAD/CAE software for packaging design and simulation.
• Knowledge of sustainable packaging materials and end-of-life considerations.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
