The Kansas Department of Insurance is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced individual to join our team as a Special Investigator in the Legal Division, Enforcement and Investigations Section. As a Special Investigator, you will work with law enforcement officers and legal professionals to conduct investigations for civil action relating to insurance fraud. The role involves gathering evidence, analyzing data, and conducting interviews to identify potential fraud. If you have strong communication and investigative skills, the Special Investigator position will be a great fit for you.

The Team:

The team members in the Legal Division, Enforcement and Investigations Section are collaborative and hardworking and have the optimal goal to protect consumers against insurance fraud in the State of Kansas. The team collaborates to make the best decisions possible for the Kansas Department of Insurance and Kansas consumers.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct investigations regarding insurance fraud.
• Collect, analyze, and document evidence to support or refute fraud allegations.
• Produce professional, detailed and concise reports outlining findings for legal or internal review.
• Prepare case for presentation to a superior, prosecuting authority, law enforcement agencies, or other state departments, administrative hearings or in court.
• Prepare and serve orders of subpoenas, affidavits, and warrants. Appear to attest to affidavits and testify as a witness in court and in administrative proceedings.

Qualifications

Licensing & Certification :

Valid driver's license.

• Travel: In-state travel will be required, and some limited out-of-state travel may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications :

• At least one (1) year investigating, fact finding or enforcing state or federal laws and regulations. Education in communications, psychology, social work, public or business administration, criminal justice or law may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the Department.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Familiarity with electronic case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications :

• One year of experience working in the insurance industry or in a regulatory environment. Professional experience or credentials may be considered to substitute for insurance or regulatory experience if deemed equivalent by the Department.
• Exceptional ability to identify discrepancies and patterns indicating fraud.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interviews and reporting.
• Strong understanding of insurance policies, fraud schemes, and legal regulations.
• Ability to work with a team and on your own independently.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
