Packaging Engineer | Mason, MI

Salary Range: $68,000 - $107,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions for new and existing products.
• Select and qualify packaging materials based on product protection, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability goals.
• Conduct thorough performance testing and validation of packaging designs to ensure product integrity and compliance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, R&D, and supply chain teams to integrate packaging solutions into production processes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives for packaging efficiency, cost reduction, and waste minimization.
• Ensure all packaging designs and materials comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for packaging equipment and production line issues.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in packaging development and engineering within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and packaging testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
• Strong knowledge of various packaging materials, machinery, and manufacturing processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage packaging projects from concept through launch, focusing on cost, quality, and sustainability.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with sustainable packaging design principles, material selection, and life cycle assessment (LCA).
• Proficiency with advanced packaging simulation software (e.g., Cape, TOPS, FEA for packaging).
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Experience with automation, robotics, or vision systems integration on packaging lines.
